Bulk Botanicals

Do you like the idea of designing your own floral arrangements for your wedding or special event?

Buying bulk flowers by the bunch from Gardenwerks can be a budget friendly option for those who have the time and talent to create their own floral designs.  Before you decide, we encourage you to consider these questions:

Do you have enough time and help to put together the arrangements?

The week of your wedding or event can be a hectic time for many people and it is easy to underestimate the time you will need to complete your arrangements.  Floral design isn’t something you will want to tackle alone, especially for beginners. We typically have our designer working 2-3 days prior to a wedding or event.

Do you have a workspace and tools to do the design work?

You will need a space that is cool, has access to water and a table.  Keep in mind that floral design is messy work, and the space often gets dirty with water, leaves and cut stems.  You will need heavy-duty clippers, buckets, vases, flower food and other supplies.

Do you have the ability to transport and store the designs once they are finished?

If you are doing the design work somewhere other than the venue, you will need to figure out how to safely transport vases filled with flowers and water to your final destination.  We recommend boxes stuffed with newspaper.

If you answered yes to all of the above, then DIY designs with fresh, local, seasonal flowers grown by Gardenwerks can be a great option for you!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I order bulk flowers?

Please complete our contact form by indicating your interest in bulk flowers.  We will then confirm availability of bulk flowers for your date. Once confirmed, we ask for a down payment of 50% of your order.  The balance will be due upon receipt of your flowers.

When should I contact you about ordering bulk flowers?

We are only able to accommodate a limited number of DIY flower orders per weekend, so we suggest you reserve your date as early as possible, and at least 3 months in advance.

How many bunches fit in a bucket?

The number of stems will vary and depend on what varieties are in bloom at that time.  We estimate that buckets can hold about 5-8 bunches

How many arrangements can be made with each bucket?

It depends on your vases.  As a reference, you could make 5-7 quart sized mason jars depending on how full and lush you make them.

Can I request specific colors?

Our bulk flower offering and special pricing is for mixed colors only.  Couples choosing bulk botanicals should be very flexible with their vision, and open to a rainbow of colors.   If you have a specific color palette you’d like us to follow, we will do our best to accommodate your request (for example, no oranges or reds) but due to our small scale, we cannot guarantee color specific bunches.

Can I request specific flowers?

If you have a particular favorite, we will do our best to accommodate you, but our bulk flowers are purely seasonal and reflect what is in bloom at that time.

Can I order smaller quantities of specific flowers separately?

We are happy to offer flowers to you by the stem or by the bunch, just ask about our flower availability list. Please note that no specific flowers are guaranteed and availability is always subject to Mother Nature’s whims.

Do the flowers need to be refrigerated?

It is recommended, but not required.  If you don’t have access to a large cooler, store them in a cool room or basement, out of direct sun and away from ripening fruit and pets.  Please note, anything out of water, such as boutonnieres and corsages, requires refrigeration until use.

How long will my flowers last?

It depends on the variety, but most will last for a week or longer if cared for properly.

When can I pick up my bulk flowers?

For Saturday wedding and events, most clients pick up their flowers on Thursday mornings, but with enough advanced notice, we can accommodate your schedule.  Please note: Flowers should be transported in an air-conditioned vehicle such as a van or large SUV. Flowers cannot be transported in the back of a pick-up truck.  If you don’t have access to an air-conditioned vehicle, delivery can be arranged with at least two weeks notice.  Delivery fees vary depending on distance.

Should I bring my own buckets?

Please do. We have a $5 bucket fee.  You are welcome to return them after the event.
